Ryerson University

Ryerson University is at the intersection of mind and action. What our students learn in the classroom is enhanced by real-world knowledge and experience. We champion diversity, entrepreneurship and innovation. Distinctly urban, culturally diverse and inclusive, we are home to more than 39,000 students, including 2,300 master's and PhD students, nearly 2,700 faculty and staff, and more than 155,000 alumni worldwide. Established in 1948, we are named after Ontario’s first Superintendent of Education and leading public school advocate, Egerton Ryerson.

We believe that education and experience go hand-in-hand. What our students learn in the classroom is enhanced by real-world knowledge through internships and co-ops, or amplified through zone learning, specialized minors and graduate programs.

Ryerson is located in the heart of Toronto, Canada, the fourth largest city in North America. Here, students can connect with leaders in culture, business, health care or government because opportunity lives at our front door. That's the Toronto advantage.

Special Characteristics

We are recognized for our excellence in teaching; the relevance of our curriculum; the success of our students in achieving their academic and career objectives; the quality of our scholarships, research and creative activity; and our commitment to accessibility, lifelong learning and involvement in the broader community.

Zone Learning

Ryerson has pioneered a unique experiential program called zone learning —a great complement to your courses with the opportunity to earn an additional credential on your transcript. You'll work with like-minded students from diverse disciplines and community groups. Some of Ryerson’s Zones include the following:

  • Biomedical Zone
  • Design Fabrication Zone
  • DMZ
  • Fashion Zone
  • iBoost Zone
  • Clean Energy Zone
  • Legal Innovation Zone
  • Science Discovery Zone
  • SocialVentures Zone
  • Transmedia Zone

A Growing Campus

Ryerson is reshaping the downtown Toronto core with new buildings. Some of our newest additions include the Student Learning Centre on Yonge Street, the Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly Maple Leaf Gardens) and the Ryerson Image Centre/School of Image Arts.

Currently under construction are the Centre of Urban Innovation, the Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex (which also includes new housing) and the Jarvis Street Residence.
